Toyota Wants To Turn Attention Back To The Brand

Toyota has been experiencing some bad luck in the last few years, including recalls of several of its most popular models due to “unintended acceleration.”

In the beginning the company stated that it was most likely due to driver error. However, when the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration took a look it became clear and it looked like it was a mechanical fault.

Some folks thought that the problem was caused by a floormat getting mixed up with the accelerator somehow. Toyota was forced to issue a massive recall in the millions to fix the problem. It appears now that things are okay. There are still many experts who believe that the issue is due to a mechanical failure.

Toyota has been trying to push back. Now it has plans to “blitz” the United States with a number of new models with hopes of exciting the car buying public and turning attention back toward Toyota.

Of course, the company’s flagship model is the Camry. Sales figures bear that out. The car has been the top selling passenger car for 13 of the past 14 years. The Camry was introduced in 1983 and 15 million of them have been sold worldwide.

Automotive enthusiasts were impressed when Toyota unveiled the all new 2012 model. It is said that the new Camry is very safe, has the best handling and better fuel economy.

The basic version is said to have a fuel economy rating of 35 mpg. The hybrid version is said to achieve an average of 41 miles a gallon. It is the first redesign of the sedan in five years. The car sports a sharper, more pointed hood, a quieter and roomier interior and more trunk space. The car also includes the infotainment system called the Entune which allows access to Internet services.

The best part is that the 2012 will be available at a lower cost than the current version. The manufacturers suggested retail price (MSRP) for the four-cylinder Camry LE with automatic transmission is now $22,500, which is about two hundred dollars cheaper than the 2011 model. Who doesn’t love a good deal?

Pricing for the XLE trim will start at $24,725, which is about $2,000 less than its previous model. The price of Camrys coming with six-cylinder engines will not change and manual transmission Camrys will not be offered because of low demand. Not a bad deal at all considering the numerous improvements for the 2012 model!
